Bill received his BA degree from UCLA in 1965, his major was Pre-Law. Upon graduation from UCLA he also obtained his commission as a Lieutenant in the United States Army. Bill entered military service in October 1965. He was trained as a Transportation Officer at Fort Eustis, Virginia. His first stateside assignment was at Fort Story, Virginia. There he received training to command an amphibious boat company

Bill deployed to the Republic of Vletnam on Sept 10, 1966. He spent 30 days on a troop ship, going through the Panama Canal, and ultimately landing at Vung Ro Bay, Vietnam. Vung Ro Bay is an isolated protrusion of land along the central coast of Vietnam. There he commanded troops and vessels in combat support in central Vietnam. Bill successfully completed his tour of duty on Sept 10, 1967 and rotated stateside. Upon his return from Vietnam Bill entered the Army Reserves and was discharged from the Army in 1976 after eleven years of service in the U.S. Army.

Bill commenced his law studies at the University of Santa Clara Law School in 1967. While in law school he was elected to the law school student body position of Treasurer. After graduation from law school he entered the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office and served four years as a Deputy Dlstrict Attorney.

In the position of Deputy District Attorney Bill gained invaluable experience. He had over 40 jury trials, 120 Preliminary Hearings, 50 court trials, innumerable sentencing hearings and motions to suppress. Bill sat as a protem judge in both traffic matters and in the juvenile court while a Deputy District Attorney.

In 1970 he entered the private practice of law by joining the law firm of Scher and Bassett in Sunnyvale, Ca. In private practice with Scher and Bassett for the past 48 years Bill has worked a large and successful personal injury practice. Bill also handled other matters in private practice including Family Law, Criminal Defense, and related Business and Real Estate matters. While in private practice he has conducted Jury Trials, Court Trials, innumerable motions in various subjects, and over a thousand mediations and arbitrations.

Beginning in 2017 Bill added the conduct and supervision of mediations to his portfolio. His mediation speciality is in Personal Injury and Family Law. Bill continues to remain available to professionally and competently represent you in personal injury matters and family law matters. He is also available to professionally mediate your personal injury and family law disputes.
